METHODOLOGY
How OAV™ Prices the Market
Eligible vehicles with enough comparable evidence carry a Price-to-Market label — Great Deal, Fair Price, or Overpriced; when the evidence is insufficient or fails OAV's reliability guards, the vehicle is Unscored. This page explains how OAV prices vehicles: what data we use, how comparables are selected, and how OAV interprets market position. Exact formulas, thresholds, comparable-count minimums, and weighting remain proprietary.
DAILY INVENTORY REFRESH
~6 million listings ingested every 24 hours
Data last updated: daily — inventory refreshed every 24 hours — roughly 6 million listings observed every 24 hours, resolving to about 5.7 million unique vehicles across ~57,000 dealerships nationwide.

What we measure
OAV™ analyzes inventory refreshed daily across the United States and compares each listing against a set of regional comparables to determine whether a vehicle is priced competitively. Every data point reflects active retail listings — not private-party values, wholesale prices, or book values.

Where the data comes from
Listing data is sourced through licensed third-party inventory feeds and refreshed daily as dealers update, add, or remove vehicles. OAV™ contextualizes that data — it does not originate it. This is the same class of licensed, professional-grade inventory data used across automotive finance and dealer operations. OAV™ makes it accessible to every buyer.
STANDARDIZED ACROSS EVERY SOURCE
Patented normalization across thousands of dealer formats
Dealer inventory arrives from thousands of independent websites in thousands of different formats. OAV™’s patented standardization technology (U.S. Patent No. 12,236,477) normalizes every listing into a single canonical schema — make, model, trim, year, mileage, price, drivetrain, geography.
This means a Ford F-150 in Dallas is directly comparable to a Ford F-150 in Denver, regardless of how each dealer originally formatted its listing. This is the step that makes everything else possible.

FAQs
Common questions
Does "overpriced" mean the vehicle is a bad buy?
Not necessarily. It means comparable vehicles are available at lower prices in the current market. The vehicle may still sell — but buyers have leverage to negotiate, and dealers should be aware of where they stand.
How often is the market data updated?
OAV™ processes daily refreshed inventory data from dealer and retail sources. Price ratings reflect the latest available market snapshot, not historical averages.
What if there are very few comparable vehicles?
When comparables are too limited or fail OAV’s reliability guards, OAV withholds a rating and marks the vehicle Unscored rather than guessing. Thin and single-listing markets are flagged clearly so users know when a confident rating isn’t available.
Does the rating factor in condition, trim, or options?
The rating compares vehicles by year, make, and model — with trim when the data supports it. Mileage is shown as context and can withhold a rating when it is extreme enough to distort the comparison; it is neither used to build the comparable set nor to adjust comparable prices. Condition and trim detail are shown in the full vehicle detail view within OAV™.
